A MAGICAL MENTOR MOMENT
Try to imagine existing without heat in the coldest of the winter months using a space heater and candles as your only source of warmth. Your food is stored in a cooler as your electricity has been shut off. You are cold and in the dark, huddled with your family members in one room of your house. This is a real life story with one of our moms in the Toddlers of Teens program. Her mentor heard this unbelievable situation and felt compelled to do something. The 17-year old mom was living with her toddler and her mother in this situation for over a month. The mentor sent out a plea to her friends, relatives, and acquaintances and was able to raise enough funds to restore heat for this family. When asked how it felt once the heat was back on, the grandmother got a big smile on her face. “It is wonderful.” She gave the mentor a huge hug for restoring more than heat….she restored their hope. Young mothers of the Toddlers of Teens program need support from a caring mentor as they strive to become good parents. Won’t you share what you’ve learned about life and parenting? It doesn’t take special skills—just a willingness to listen and offer encouragement. Please call Elaine at 223-9227 to create some magical moments for someone else.
