A MAGICAL MENTOR MOMENT

This is a real life story with one of our moms in the Toddlers of Teens program. Her mentor heard this unbelievable situation and felt compelled to do something. The 17-year old mom was living with her toddler and her mother in this situation for over a month. The mentor sent out a plea to her friends, relatives, and acquaintances and was able to raise enough funds to restore heat for this family. When asked how it felt once the heat was back on, the grandmother got a big smile on her face. “It is wonderful.” She gave the mentor a huge hug for restoring more than heat….she restored their hope. Young mothers of the Toddlers of Teens program need support from a caring mentor as they strive to become good parents. Won’t you share what you’ve learned about life and parenting? It doesn’t take special skills—just a willingness to listen and offer encouragement. Please call Elaine at 223-9227 to create some magical moments for someone else.

Volunteers and those who donate their time, talents and treasure are Dayton Right to Life’s life-blood. We appreciate you and all that you do and all that you give more than we can express.

I wanted to make it known what the greatest areas of need are at this time and ask that you prayerfully consider in what way you might be a part of service to those in need.

There is always something to do in the Stork’s Nest Baby Pantry. Some of the things to be done there are:

Sorting donated clothing by size, checking for rips or tears or stains
Making up outfits & hanging them in the proper place on the clothing racks (we all it reverse shopping)
Taking home clothing that needs laundered, washing & drying & returning to the pantry
Being here one day a week regularly to serve clients for a couple hours on that day
Making diaper bundles by size from the large packages donated or putting diaper wipes into baggies for emergency-sized packets

There are other office tasks that need done regularly as well. These would be:

Folding, stuffing & sealing envelopes for mailings
Vacuuming, general straightening of shelved items & supplies
Some filing
Shredding of sensitive materials
Helping take overflow calls
Greeting clients at the front desk & copying their IDs and having them complete the informational intake form
Receiving in donated items

For Parenting classes, you could be involved by:
Becoming a mentor to the young ladies who attend classes
Prepare foods for them to have a nutritional meal for the weekly class
Be a babysitter for class times for the toddlers of the young moms and dads attending
Help to make binders for class by making copies, hole-punching & organizing materials
Teaching an occasional class for some time during a series of classes. For more information on topics covered in the classes you can call Elaine at 937.223.5250

We appreciate you thinking about the possible ways in which you might serve others through volunteering at the Life Resource Centre. Any information you need to better decide if a particular area would be right for you can be obtained by calling our offices. The main number is 937.461.3625.
